PINK GENERATION: Industrial Coatings Africa Hosts Breast Cancer Awareness Seminar for Students in Kasoa
Industrial Coatings Africa, a leading provider of protective coating solutions across the continent, today, 29th October 2025, hosted a breast cancer awareness seminar specifically tailored for female students at St. Peter’s Anglican Basic ‘A’ and ‘B’ School in Kasoa. The event, which began promptly at 8:30 a.m., drew participation from dozens of young women eager to learn about preventive health measures in a supportive and engaging environment.
The seminar was designed not only to raise awareness about breast cancer but also to provide students with actionable skills that they can incorporate into their daily lives. By partnering with healthcare professionals and the school, Industrial Coatings Africa aimed to address a critical public health issue at the grassroots level, targeting an age group where early education can foster long-term behavioural changes.
Expert-Led Session on Breast Health and Early Detection
At the heart of the program was a detailed presentation delivered by a team of four registered nurses from Mother and Child Hospital, a respected local healthcare facility known for its maternal and child wellness services. The nurses brought years of clinical experience to the classroom, ensuring that the information shared was both accurate and accessible to a younger audience.
The session opened with an overview of breast cancer, including its prevalence in Ghana and across Africa. The nurses explained that, while the disease can affect women of any age, awareness and proactive monitoring are key to reducing mortality rates. They highlighted statistics showing that early-stage detection often leads to survival rates exceeding 90 percent, underscoring the importance of vigilance.
A significant portion of the seminar focused on Breast Self-Examination (BSE), a simple yet effective method for identifying potential abnormalities. Using visual aids and step-by-step guidance, the nurses demonstrated the correct procedure: examining the breasts in front of a mirror for visible changes, checking while lying down, and palpating in a circular motion to feel for lumps or irregularities. They advised performing BSE once a month, ideally a few days after the menstrual cycle, and encouraged students to make it a routine habit.
To ensure understanding, the nurses facilitated a question-and-answer segment. Students inquired about common myths, such as whether deodorants cause cancer or if BSE is necessary for teenagers. The responses were clear and evidence-based, dispelling misconceptions and building confidence. One nurse emphasized, “Knowledge removes fear. When you know what to look for and how to do it, you take control of your health.”

Practical Support Through Hygiene Kits
Beyond education, Industrial Coatings Africa demonstrated a holistic approach to community support by distributing hygiene kits to all attending students. Each kit included a supply of sanitary pads and tissue paper—essential items that promote personal hygiene and dignity, particularly for adolescent girls navigating puberty and menstrual health.
This gesture addressed a practical barrier that many students face, as access to affordable sanitary products remains a challenge in some households. By combining health education with tangible resources, the company reinforced the message that well-being encompasses both knowledge and everyday needs.

Collaboration and Community Impact
The success of the seminar hinged on strong collaboration among the stakeholders. Industrial Coatings Africa worked closely with the administration of St. Peter’s Anglican Basic School to schedule the event during a convenient morning slot, minimizing disruption to the academic day. Mother and Child Hospital contributed not only the nursing team but also educational materials to supplement the live demonstration.
School representatives praised the initiative, noting that topics like breast cancer are rarely covered in standard curricula. “Programs like this fill an important gap,” said a teacher in attendance. “Our students leave with information that could one day save their lives or the lives of their family members.”
Looking Ahead
Industrial Coatings Africa has expressed interest in expanding similar programs to other schools and community groups. By starting with young women, the company hopes to cultivate a generation that prioritizes health screenings and open discussions about cancer. The nurses from Mother and Child Hospital also offered to provide follow-up sessions if needed, ensuring continuity of learning.
Today’s seminar serves as a model for how businesses can leverage their resources and networks to address public health challenges. In a country where breast cancer incidence is rising, such grassroots efforts contribute meaningfully to national awareness campaigns.
As the students filed out of the assembly hall clutching their new kits and newfound knowledge, the impact was clear: a morning dedicated to health education had planted seeds for a healthier future.
